Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Ladle

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 large orange zest and peel only
  • 4 whole cloves whole cloves for aroma
  • 1 cinnamon stick cinnamon stick
  • 2 tablespoons honey optional sweetener
  • 1 small orange peel thinly sliced or grated

Instructions

  • Pour water into a saucepan and bring it to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat.
  • While the water heats, zest the orange, taking care to avoid the bitter white pith, and add the zest along with the peel to the saucepan.
  • Add the whole cloves, cinnamon stick, and orange peel slices to the simmering water, allowing their fragrances to infuse as it continues to warm.
  • Allow the mixture to simmer gently for about 15 to 20 minutes, until the water becomes fragrant and slightly colored by the citrus oils and spices.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and strain the liquid through a fine sieve to remove the orange peels, cloves, and cinnamon for a smooth infusion.
  • Stir in honey or your preferred sweetener to balance the bright citrus and spicy notes.
  • Pour the hot, fragrant infusion into cups, and enjoy the warm aroma and refreshing citrus flavor.

Notes

For a stronger spice flavor, you can add more cloves or a longer simmer. Adjust sweetness to taste with honey or sugar. This infusion can be served warm or reheated later for continued comfort.
