Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Ladle

Ingredients

  • 2 pieces cinnamon sticks preferably organic
  • 2 large citrus fruits oranges or grapefruits, sliced into rounds
  • 8 whole whole cloves use fresh for better aroma
  • 4 cups water or broth for a richer flavor, use broth
  • 1 tablespoon honey optional, for subtle sweetness

Instructions

  • Place the water or broth in a large saucepan and add the cinnamon sticks and whole cloves. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, letting the spices infuse the liquid with warm aroma.
  • While the liquid heats, wash and thinly slice the citrus fruits into rounds, removing any seeds and arranging the slices aside.
  • Once the liquid is bubbling gently, add the citrus slices to the saucepan, spreading them evenly across the surface. You should hear a soft bubbling sound as they start mingling with the spices.
  • Lower the heat to a gentle simmer and let everything cook together for about 20-30 minutes. The citrus will soften slightly and release its fragrant oils, filling the kitchen with a citrusy-spiced scent.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat once the citrus slices look translucent and the spices have deeply infused the liquid. You can lift out the cinnamon sticks and whole cloves if desired, or leave them in for a stronger aroma.
  • Stir in a tablespoon of honey or your preferred sweetener to balance the spices and citrus's tang. Mix well to dissolve everything evenly.
  • Ladle the warm, fragrant citrus-spiced liquid into cups, making sure each serving gets a good mix of citrus slices and spice aroma. Serve immediately, enjoying the cozy layers of flavor each sip offers.

Notes
