Ingredients
  

  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 cups butter softened
  • 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 3.4 ounce packages instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 cups milk chocolate chips

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Sift together the flour and baking soda, set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and white sugar.

  • Beat in the instant pudding mix until blended. Stir in the eggs and vanilla.
  • Blend in the flour mixture.

  • Stir in the milk chocolate chips, trying to spread evenly through cookie dough.
  • Make balls of cookie dough, about 1 inch in diameter.
  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven. Edges should be golden brown.

Notes

Add 1/2 teaspoon of espresso powder to the dough along with the salt to make mocha chocolate chip cookies.
To make extremely large, bake sale-style (5") cookies, place the dough onto the baking sheets in tiny 1/3-cup portions. If the dough hasn't been refrigerated, bake for 13 to 14 minutes; if so, bake for 17 to 18 minutes.
Before scooping and baking, cover the dough and refrigerate it for a fuller, richer caramel/toffee flavor rather than just vanilla. Bake for about 12 minutes, or until the cookies are lightly colored in the center and have a brown exterior.
