Equipment

  • Large bowl
  • Colander or strainer
  • Pot for cooking

Ingredients

  • 1.15 lbs Raw Shrimp with shells, about 1 lb after cooking
  • 8 cups Filtered water
  • 1 tbsp Garlic salt like Lawry's
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Black pepper
  • 1-2 Bay leaves

Instructions

  • First, decide if you want to keep the shrimp shells on or take them off. I usually take them off and keep them for later.
  • Next, put the shrimp shells into a big pot with some garlic salt, black pepper, and a couple of bay leaves. Add 8 cups of water and turn up the heat until it starts boiling.
  • Once it's boiling, carefully add the peeled shrimp. Let them cook until they turn pink, which takes about 2-3 minutes depending on how big they are.
  • When they're done, take out the cooked shrimp and put them in a bowl of cold water to cool down quickly and stop cooking. And that's all there is to it! Now you can enjoy your quick-cooked shrimp.

Notes

  • Defrost frozen shrimp: Put them in cool water for 10 mins, change water, soak for 10 more mins.
  • Rinse shrimp under cool water in a strainer.
  • Cook gently: Don't boil too hard, let them finish cooking in hot water's heat after turning off the stove.
  • Store leftovers: Keep in the fridge in a sealed container, good for up to 3 days. Easy!
