Once the mixture is thoroughly mixed, use a rubber spatula to scrape it into the center of a large piece of plastic wrap or parchment paper.
Gather the edges of the plastic wrap or parchment paper around the cheese mixture, shaping it into a ball as you go. Twist the ends tightly to seal the cheese ball.
Place the wrapped cheese ball on a baking sheet or serving platter and refrigerate it for at least 2 hours, or until firm.
If desired, just before serving, roll the chilled cheese ball in chopped pecans or walnuts to coat the outside evenly.
Garnish the cheese ball with fresh herbs, if desired, and serve it with an assortment of crackers, breadsticks, or fresh vegetables for dipping.
