Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups mixed fresh or dried fruits such as apples, pears, berries, plums, apricots
  • 6 cups water
  • 1/2 cup sugar adjust to taste
  • Optional: cinnamon sticks cloves, lemon peel

Instructions
 

  • Rinse and prepare the fruits as needed. If using fresh fruits, core, peel, and chop them into chunks. If using dried fruits, rinse them thoroughly.
  • In a large pot, combine the prepared fruits with water and sugar.
  • Optional: Add cinnamon sticks, cloves, or lemon peel for additional flavor (tie them in a cheesecloth for easy removal later).
  • Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
  • Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let the Kompot simmer gently for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Taste and adjust the sweetness if needed by adding more sugar.
  • Remove the pot from heat and allow the Kompot to cool slightly.
  • Strain the Kompot through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the fruit solids.
  • Serve the Kompot warm or chill it in the refrigerator for several hours before serving.
  • Optionally, garnish with fresh mint leaves or a slice of lemon before serving.

Notes

  1. Adjusting Sweetness: The amount of sugar can be adjusted according to taste and the sweetness of the fruits used. Start with a smaller amount and add more if needed during cooking.
  2. Enhancing Flavor: To add depth of flavor, consider incorporating spices like cinnamon sticks or cloves, or citrus zest like lemon peel. These ingredients can be added during cooking and removed before serving.
