- 12 slices hearty white sandwich bread
- 16 1/4-inch-thick slices vine-ripened tomatoes (from about 3 (6-ounce) tomatoes)
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt; for table salt use half as much by volume
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 3/4 cup mayonnaise 6 ounces,170 g, divided
- 8 romaine lettuce leaves 6 ounces; 170 g total, cut in half crosswise
- 16 slices deli turkey about 1 pound; 454 g total, preferably hickory smoked
- 16 4-inch toothpicks
Cook the bacon in a skillet until crisp; drain on paper towels.
Toast the sandwich bread slices until golden brown.
Spread mayonnaise on one side of each toast slice.
Layer lettuce, tomato, turkey, and bacon on one slice.
Add another slice of toast, then repeat the layering.
