Hawaiian Roll French Toast Recipe

This Hawaiian roll French toast is something I like to make when I want a breakfast that feels a little different without adding extra work. Using soft rolls instead of regular bread gives it a slightly sweeter base, which works well with simple toppings.

I usually make it on slower mornings when I have a bit more time to cook. It comes together quickly once everything is dipped and cooked, and it’s easy to serve straight from the pan.

What I enjoy most is how it can be kept simple or dressed up depending on the day. Sometimes I just add a little syrup, other times I include fruit or powdered sugar it works either way without much effort.

Instructions

  • In a big bowl, mix together the eggs, heavy whipping cream, vanilla, and cinnamon.
  • Melt the butter in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Poke some holes in the bottom of each roll with a fork. Dip the rolls quickly into the egg mixture, making sure they’re coated all over.
  • Place the rolls in the skillet and cook for about 2 minutes on each side until they’re golden brown.

Notes

  • You don’t need to slice the rolls, just pull them apart.
  • I use whole milk, but you can use low-fat milk, half-and-half, or heavy whipping cream.
  • Don’t let the rolls soak in the egg mixture for too long, or they’ll get soggy. Just a quick dip on all sides is enough before cooking.
  • I like to poke a few holes in each roll with a fork before dipping them in the egg mixture.
  • Feel free to mix up the spices in the egg mixture. Pumpkin spice, nutmeg, allspice, or cardamom are all tasty options. You can also add a pinch of salt for extra flavor.
  • If you’re making a lot of French toast, you can keep the cooked rolls warm in the oven.

How Long Do Hawaiian Rolls Last?

Homemade Hawaiian Rolls stay good for about 3 days if you keep them in a sealed container at room temperature. Don’t put them in the fridge because they’ll dry out. To make them fresh again, warm them in a 300°F oven for 5 minutes or microwave them for 15-20 seconds.

Can Hawaiian Rolls be Frozen?

Yes, you can freeze them. But if you’re going to eat them within a week or two, you don’t need to freeze them. Just keep them in a cool, dry place. If you want to store them longer, go ahead and freeze them.

What Makes Hawaiian Bread So Good?

Hawaiian rolls are sweet, with a flaky outside and a soft inside. This makes them super tasty and popular.
